Hartley Row comes to the market for the first time in over 25 years, she was launched in 1989 and purchased by her current owner in 1994.
The Broom Monarch offers an outstanding amount of space and a quality feel for what these days is not a lot of money. she has been well cruised through her years but has spent her latter years on the upper reaches of the Thames. However, she would be more than capable of taking a new owner to European waters or staying around the UK, coastal or inland. She would of course make a great vessel for extended time aboard, even semi live on for the right person/couple.
She is available to view on the outskirts of Reading, usually 24 hours notice is required to organise this.
A recent question to the owner prompted a very good reply regarding the usage of Hartley Row as it is generally accepted that these large diesel engines do not like spending year after year running at idle on inland waters. Please read below for a brief description by the owner as to the cruising he has done on this boat:
Hartley Row was, until about 3 years ago, used for half the time on the river at 4 or 5 knots and and for 3 months at sea at a cruising speed of 13 knots. At sea the fuel consumption was about 1.5 nm per gallon (total for both engines) but on the river was something like 5 m.p.g. As you can appreciate it is difficult to give an exact figure. On the later journeys we were travelling at sea at 10 knots because that was the cruising speed of the boat with which we were travelling.
The last time we were travelling at 10 to 13 knots was three or four years ago and the maximum long journey spread over three or four days was from London to Dartmouth, about 250nm. The journey from London (Teddington) to Ramsgate, (90nm) we did almost every year as it was to start of most of our sea trips. The longest single trip was from Ramsgate to Lymington about 140 nm.

Thames Brokerage Ltd are acting only as brokers and no warranty is implied or given. Any prospective purchaser must satisfy themselves as to the condition of the vessel & suitability for their use along with ensuring they are happy with the legal title of the vessel. We would advise employing a qualified marine surveyor to ascertain the condition of the vessel and a marine engineer to confirm the condition of the mechanical aspects of the craft. In most cases a demonstration run will be possible but only once a price has been agreed with the owner and a deposit placed on the craft.
